March 21 - Checkers

March 21, 2013  •  Leave a Comment

My son asked to learn how to play checkers because he wanted to be just like Andy and Opie from the "Andy Griffith Show".     Nothing better than Andy and Opie sitting on the front porch on a Sunday evening after Supper playing a nice slow game of checkers.   How can you say no to a child who wants to learn to play checkers like Opie.

Here he is learning the rules as his Dad is teaching him checkers.    He caught on pretty quick for a youngin'.    Next step will be playing on the front stoop after a nice Sunday supper.    I do wish we were more like Mayberry, nothing wrong with taking things slow and moving pieces with your hands...yes actually moving them yourself not sliding your finger across a screen.

I pray that my children retain some of the Mayberry type qualities we try to instill in them, Lord willing they will teach their children the same things.

March 18 - Painting

I made a promise to my five year-old that when I got home from work today that we would PAINT!   Prior to painting we also made his dad some chocolate chip cookie bars and my son did all the mixing.   I think we should teach kids early about cooking and cleaning up their messes makes them feel like they can accomplish things.   Also, when I am older than sin they will know how to take care of me.    Back to the subject...

So after dinner Dan and Sam started to PAINT as promised (Thank you Lord for washable paint)!   They did really well, especially Sam for being 2 he was very patient and actually used the paintbrush.   Dan made a wonderful rainbow and Sam tried to make Barney.    I need to frame and hang these works of art to remember the precious little hands and imaginations that created these wonderful works of art.

March 17 - First Communion Portraits

My dear friend's daughter is making her communion this April and I have never taken First Communion portraits.   My friend was kind enough to dress up her daughter for me and even do her hair so I can practice!   I am proud to say the portraits turned out wonderful!   I do wish the weather was warmer and we had some "green" items outside to do some beautiful springtime portraits.

The flowers and beautiful buds on the trees would have been a wonderful accent next to such a lovely little girl.    Even with the cold blah type weather, we were able to capture some wonderful photos and her mother is very happy.

March 16 - Southeast School

Took the boys out this afternoon to get rid of some of their energy since they are feeling better.   They have been locked in the house due to their colds.    We ended up just walking to the elementary school and went exploring for things that we could find that were unique.     We found some ribbon, a couple cool looking bookmarks, garbage and some neat rocks.

I happen to think that my children's elementary school is the prettiest in the District.     I like the Colonial style building and it is not an eyesore, quite nice actually.     I will be sure to have Danny posing on his first day of Kindergarten with this wonderful building in the background and follow the same tradition with Sam.    I wish I would have thought of that with my oldest two, but you live and learn.

March 15 - Art Show

My daughter has a piece of artwork that is on display at the local community college.   The art show highlighted artists from local high schools and the art pieces were voted on by a group of judges.    This is my first visit to an art show for local high school students and I was in awe of the amount of talent that these young people have.  There were so many pieces of art that were amazing and to think these young adults are just starting out I can only imagine what is in store for them!

This was my daughter's piece and it was done with markers and titled "Reunited with my Best Friend".    Glad she is enjoying her art class and she is doing well.   She is very talented from music to her drawing abilities I hope she continue pushing herself to see what she can create.
