March 8 - Birthday Party

March 09, 2013  •  Leave a Comment

My 5 year old went to a birthday party last night at 6:30PM and he had a blast!  It was at a local Jump Zone and when we went to pick him up at 8:15...this is the 1000 yard tired smile that we saw.    He had a blast with 20 other kids from his preschool and was thoroughly exhausted when he got home!   I love those kinds of parties.

This is just the beginning for him; we will have sleepovers, more parties, graduations and growing up to look forward to!

March 7 - First Big Winter Storm 2013

The first big snow storm of the year was this week and we finally got measurable amount of snow over a couple inches.   Thank goodness it happened the day after we got home from New Orleans!

The little ones had a blast with sledding and building snowmen.   I did not get the chance to photography the snowman because Dan ended up karate chopping it after we finished.      It is very hard to photograph the boys as they need help, especially Sam when he falls he is like a turtle on it's back.     It was more important to help them play in the snow then photograph it anyway...we made mental photographs (thanks Pam from the Office).

March 6 - New Orleans

I have not posted in a few days as I went down to New Orleans with my husband to enjoy some much needed kid free time!     My husband and I have been planning to head to the French Quarter since Katrina hit back in 2005.   We were originally scheduled to go about 1 a week after Katrina hit New Orleans, which obviously we didn't.

I had seen many pictures, heard many stories about the French Quarter, saw the small city within the city in movies, books, etc...But nothing describes the French Quarter until you have been there.   I happened to love the French Quarter and enjoyed all areas of our mini-vacation.   The city was nothing of what I expected.   I had heard it was dirty; streets filled with urine and vomit, city smelled and drunk people everywhere.   Bourbon Street fit that description at times, but the other streets of the French Quarter were charming.   I found the city to be clean, full of character and romantic.   I miss New Orleans and I have only been gone a day or more.

Here is my favorite photo from my recent visit and if you want feel free to check out all of the photos I took during my recent trip!

February 26 - Snow Storm

We finally have some real snow from an actual snow storm today!   I took the opportunity to snap some shots on my way home and also of the boys and their dad enjoying the appetite improver.   Snow makes everything beautiful and peaceful for a little while and the kids sure love it!

I also used the snow today to show the older kids about charity and doing onto others for no reason than to do what is right.  I have to say I was very proud of them as they didn't give me a hard time and I only counted one eye roll.   They each went to a different elderly neighbor's house and shoveled the stairs, sidewalk and driveway and were not allowed to take a dime.    I am sure they think I am a pain, but I pray that when they have children they make them do the same thing.

February 24 - Yukich Sunset

My wonderful husband offered to take the boys and pick up Megan and Brian so I can utilize the "Golden Hour" of photography.    I was itching to try and get some photos this weekend and did not have a chance at all today I was busy cleaning, laundry, cooking and grocery shopping.

So James left about 5PM and I look a ride over to Yukich Field.   The sun was just over the trees so I start to walk towards the small retention pond.     I tried to figure out a shot where I could focus on something but showcase the sun and the frozen water.     I took a couple snaps and from my small little camera screen I thought this shot was okay.    Once I got home and uploaded I was so thrilled I was able to capture the sunburst coming through the trees.     Great timing and very lucky!

On my searching for a shot I did notice an all-white tree in the cemetery that I am going to have to try and capture, it was gorgeous...maybe a future post!
